The idea for the Illustrious Women series came to me in early 2017. It seemed there was a collective need to celebrate the feminine, and I wanted to draw attention to and educate myself about the many women who have gone before me- women who lived the lives they wanted to and bettered the world in the process.

Julia Child, the woman responsible for bringing the joy of French cooking to the American table. Born and raised in California, she did not start cooking till after she married and moved to France, where she'd fallen in love with the food. She took classes at Le Cordon Bleu and after graduation formed a cooking school with Louise Bertholle and Simone Beck. The three women decided to publish a series of cookbooks aimed at bringing French cooking to Americans, and as it turned out, they were extremely successful. When she appeared on public television to promote her book, her segment was so popular she was offered a regular spot, which began her 40-year television cooking show career. She was the first woman to be inducted into the Culinary Hall of Fame and was awarded France's highest honor for her work.
