The idea for the Illustrious Women series came to me in early 2017. It seemed there was a collective need to celebrate the feminine, and I wanted to draw attention to and educate myself about the many women who have gone before me- women who lived the lives they wanted to and bettered the world in the process.

Dorothy Draper, decorator and trailblazer in business. She used her privileged background to build an exclusive interior design firm at a time when women didn’t have careers and the interiors profession didn’t really exist. She began decorating her own homes and used her social connections to make her way into hotel design, the most well-known of which is probably the Greenbrier. Her use of color is legendary, and she paved the way for many well-known designers of today. Her fabric and wallpaper designs are still being sold, over 70 years later.
